I think I have reached the depths of laziness; I have not slept on a bed with sheets since Friday night….

Friday night – slept on the couch (I usually do this if Sarah is away from home)

Saturday night- I washed the new set of sheet I purchased that morning but forgot to put them in the dryer.  After 4 hours of WoW I could barely hold my eyes open and simply collapsed onto my bare mattress and covered with the comforter.

Sunday night – I remembered to put the sheets in the dryer on Sunday afternoon but never checked to see if they were dry. When I was ready for bed I pulled them out only to find they were still damp.  Too tired to wait for them to dry, I slept (again) on my bare mattress

Tonight – The sheets are dry and sitting on my bed.  I don’t know if I have the desire/energy to actually make the bed.  I stuffed myself at Buffalo Wild Wings and can barely move…it may be another night on the bare mattress.

There’s no backing out now…Aunt Margaret made the hotel reservations this afternoon.  London here we come!

Back in January the NFL announced that this year’s International Series would feature the New Orleans Saints and the San Diego Chargers at Wembley Stadium.  As a Saints fan, this seemed like a great opportunity to see my first professional NFL game AND visit London for the first time.  I pitched the idea to my mom and aunt and suprisingly they thought it was a fabulous idea.  Goodbye DisneyWorld, hello London :)

The school where I teach has a mission statement that focuses on the 5 Rs: relevance, rigor, relationships, responsibility and respect.  I (accidentally) had the chance to present a great lesson on relevance this week.

Student: Miss, I hate writing.

Me: I know.

Student: Then why do you make me do it?

Me: You have to able to write in order to be successful in this world.

Student:Not if I work at Whataburger.

Me:And do you want to work at Whataburger for the rest of you life?

Student: No but I just don’t see the point of having to write.  I’m never gonna use this stuff in real life.  What am I gonna have to write?

Me: A resume, a cover letter, a letter of compliant…

Student: (with a heavy sigh) Whatever.

Me: Plus, the state of Texas requires you to write a coherent essay on order to get your diploma.  You can’t change that and neither can I.  I suggest you just except that fact and write your essay.

Student (rolling her eyes): Fine.  Whatever.

30 minutes later…

Student #2: Hey Jane, I love your jacket.  You look like a detective or something.

Student #1: Thanks..Just call me Lt. Doe!  Ya’ll better not do nothing wrong ’cause I’m gonna bust ya’ll and send ya to jail.

Me: How are you going to prosecute them once you catch ‘em?

Student #1: Huh?

Me: Court…How are you going to make sure the lawyers win the case against the criminals you catch?

Student#1: I’ll write it in my report.

Me (voice dripping with sarcasm) : You’ll do what? Write a report? Didn’t you just tell me you hate to write?  Didn’t you say you don’t need to write in your job?  What are you planning to do, walk into the court and tell the judge “Well, you see, what had happened was…”  I don’t think that will win your case.

*30 second pause*

Student: Oh I get it.  I see what you’re trying to do.  You want me to see that writing is important, huh?

Me: Well…

Student #1: Fine Miss, I get it, I get it…I gotta be able to write.

Me (with a barely hidden grin): Does this mean I’ll see a completed rough draft on Monday morning?

Student #1 (with a heavy sigh and lots of eye rolling):  Yeah Miss, I’ll have the paper.

Me: Thank you Jane.  Have a good weekend!

I drank my last Dr. Pepper today…oh how sweet and refreshing it was, my addicitive elixir of caffine!  To think, it will be an angonizing 40 days ‘fore I taste another :(

Average Joe and I talked this morning, and he informed me that he is giving up cigarettes until Easter with the hope that after 40 days of no smoking he will be able to quit for good (yay Joe!!).   While I remembered to dress up in celebration of Mardi Gras I somehow managed to forget about the bigger picture behind the party – the season of Lent.  I should I be thankful that Lent is once again upon us; while I sacrifice one of my favorite indulgences I am also cutting a major source of calories from my daily diet.  Two birds, one stone and all that crap, right?  It’s just that I really don’t want to give up my daily soda…thus the reason I am choosing this for Lent.  If I didn’t care it wouldn’t be a sacrifice.

By the way, did I mention I’m not even Catholic?  Damn those strong south Louisiana roots.
