Hypocrites? March 28, 2008

As some of you may know I have tuned to the Internet as my main source of dating. (spare me the jokes please). The bar scene doesn’t appeal to me anymore and the only place I ever go is work so my pool of potential dates is VERY small. Anyway, I am on several different sights and I have noticed a common thread that is pissing me off. Many guys will indicate in their profile that they want to someday have children which is a definite plus since I already have one child and hope to one day have more. Then 90% of these same guys say that they only want to date women with no kids. WTF? Part of me is glad that the guys are being honest right up front but the larger part is really ticked. If an overwhelming majority of these men want kids (just not ones that aren’t their own) how in the hell am I ever going to go on a date?!?! Aghhhhhhh!

From Behind They All Look Like Girls March 10, 2008

Random and pointless thoughts to start the week…
1. Driving a mini-van is really depressing if you don’t have enough kids or friends to fill it. Hopefully my car will be out of the shop soon.
2. I’m looking forward to the Velcro Pygmies show Monday night. Meet me at Sherlock’s on Westheimer if you want to celebrate St. Patty’s Day with a great ’80s cover band, green beer, and way too many borderline twenty-somethings.
3. Grocery shopping at Kroger’s is made so much more enjoyable when you can listen to Debbie Gibson and Olivia Newton-John. Seriously. Can you imagine facing the stress of deciding between 1% or skim, whole-wheat or white without the melodious sounds of these lovely ladies?!
4. Pop-Tarts rock! Especially chocolate fudge. Ate almost an entire box this weekend.
5. Ten-year-old girls don’t understand the glorious beauty that is Louis XIV. Sarah and I watched The Man in the Iron Mask last night and her frequent comment was “Mom, I don’t get it. From behind they look like girls.”

The TAKS test is over!!!! I can breathe easier and stop cramming the test down my kids’ throats. I felt very confident about their ability to do well on the test; they have been patient with all my “practice” work and worked hard to prepare. Added to the relief is the joy that knowing we only have 2.5 weeks left in the term…woo hoo

Okay, I’ll admit it…I loooooooove watching Cops. I discovered this facet of my personality about 2 weeks ago. I was witing for Forensic Files to come on and watched the last 10 minutes of a Cops episode and from that moment on I Was hooked! Seeing the caliber of folks on this show and the messes they get themseelves into makes me realize just how not screwed up my life really is
Gotta go…another episode is starting!!
A Nice Bike Ride March 2, 2008

My brother came to town for a weekend visit and convinced Sarah and me to go on a bike ride with him. (He rides an average of 15 miles a day and is somewhat training for the 2009 MS 150 .) There is a nice set of bike trails near my neighborhood, so we loaded the bikes in his Cajun Cadillac (a Mazda MPV) and made the 5 minute drive to the start of the trails. We biked approximately 6 miles in about 45 minutes. The trails are really nice; they are well maintained, very shady, and wide enough for two-way bike traffic.
I was really concerned that my legs would be screaming in pain after the first 2 miles, but I actually never really had any terrible muscle burn. We kept a steady pace, not too fast or too slow so I think that helped. Sarah was winded and started lagging behind in the last mile but I was able to make the entire ride without feeling like I was totally out of shape.
I think Sarah and I may make these bike rides part of our weekly routine. My brother informed me that I can find a reliable bike rack to attach to the car for a reasonable price. Adding a little exercise to out lives would definitely be a good thing.
