The numerous novels that comprise this series are a wonderful combination of archaeology, history, romance, and intrigue.  I have read 7 of these books to date and have loved them all.  Each novel focuses on a different tribe of Native American peoples.  The first novel reaches back to approximately 12,000 B.C. and the series moves forward from there.  So far I’ve  read about tribes in Florida, the Great Lakes area, southern Louisiana, along the California coast and in Alaska, to name a few.

What I find most fasinating about these stories is the intricate insight they provide into the Native American culture.  I have learned about food production, trade routes, religious beliefs, society rules, clan heirarchies, death rituals, creation myths and techniques of warfare.  Woven into all of the history are fabolus stories about men and women and the lives they lead.  I’m always amazed to finish one of these books and realize that the citizens of a culture that lived over one thousand years ago faced the same trials and challenges that people of today’s America face.  These books have connected me to the past in a way that no other historical fiction novel ever has!
