A Day Late May 9, 2007

Geez I hate when you get all the information you need just a little too late.  As part of my required professional development (i.e. waste of my time sitting in useless classes) I signed up for a technology class that was held today after school.  The title was M.O.R.E. : Marvelous Online Resources for Everyone.  I had absolutely no idea what the class was going to be about — I need 4 more hours of comp time so I can take May 29th off instead of sitting in some god-awful meeting, and I randomly picked this course because it was offered on my school campus right after school and earned me 2 hours.

WOW!  We recieved so much wonderful and relevant information…the best professional development I’ve been to in the past 4 years.  Basically one of the district’s librarians came in a showed us every database that the district pays for students and teachers to have access to.  We have more information available to us than we could ever wish to use.   My fellow teachers and I just sat there, awe-struck at all the resources the kids can use both on campus and at home.

The downside – only 2 weeks left in the school year and we’re just receiving this information.  I taught research this semester and these databases would have made such a huge difference in the ease and quality of their work.  Aghhhhhh!  I guess there’d always next year.
